On March 29, 2011, Lübeck was elected to be the German "City of Science" ("Stadt der Wissenschaft") for the year 2012. As a consequence, more than 70 scientific projects will be realized in cooperation between the City of Lübeck, local companies and the universities and schools. http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/25/microsoft-unites-with-former-exec-in-building-a-smart-city-in/ Steve Lewis, ex-Microsoftie and current CEO of Living PlanIT, has a vision for how to make our cities smarter and more sustainable, and it starts literally at ground level, with the installation of smart sensors into buildings as they're being built. The appeal of his company's ideas has already attracted some tech luminaries as partners, Cisco being among them, and now Microsoft has also been signed up to provide the cloud framework required to keep all those sensors talking with its Azure platform.

On 2nd and 3rd of March held the cooperation meeting of the project at the venues of Ericsson Servia d.o.o. in Belgrade. Topics covered are Specification and Design of Experimental Federated Open and Trusted Facility (WP2), Building an experimental facility(WP3), Development, evaluation and impact of use cases for research community and end-users (WP4) and Experimentation support, Dissemination and Sustainable exploitation (WP4).
Typically, research projects do not trespass the boundaries of laboratories. Besides, when we think about experimentation lab coats and test tubes come to our minds. SmartSantander is breaking all this stereotypes. Today, only six months after the project kick-off meeting, a dozen of sensor nodes are already part of the SmartSantander experimental facility and what is more remarkable, they are also part of the Santander’s eco-system.
Sense Smart City is a Swedish project designed to conduct research, create new business opportunities and sustainably increase ICT research and innovation capability with specific objective to make urban cities/areas "smarter". The project will generate new and better ICT solutions, that instrument urban areas to gather and combine information (energy, traffic, weather, events, activities, needs and oppinions) continously as well as "on-demand". This will enable city environments to become "smarter", as more adaptive and supportive environment, for its inhabitants and visitors - people as well as organisations.
