The senZations summer school has become an annual event on the agenda of young researcher talents across Europe and other parts of the world. Covering in depth a range of advanced topics from wireless sensor networks to M2M to Internet of Things and their applications with support of excellent lecturers and senior researchers from academy and industry, senZations has attracted more than 250 students during the past five events. senZations offers a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from the leading European research projects about the latest developments and open challenges in an emerging area, that is expected to significantly impact our way of life and the way future business will be done in our economies. It combines lectures on fundamental and applied aspects of the Internet of Things with hands-on tutorials and experimentation, providing the participants with a solid understanding and experience to further advance research in this field. The aims of the summer school are to:

- Survey fundamental and applied aspects of the Internet of Things - Present recent advances and identify important open research challenges anddirections - Provide hands-on experience for experimentally-driven IoT research on one of the leading European IoT research facilities - Allow establishing new contacts with other young researchers and experienced scholars from academia and industry - Provide an opportunity to discuss and share your own ideas - Have fun and enjoy while acquiring new skills and expertise

PROGRAM The summer school will last for 5 days and will feature a number of different activities: Lectures: Each day will feature lectures with subsequent discussions around important IoT research themes and technology areas: - SmartSantander tutorial - how to use the platform and how to apply for funding available to run experiments - Latest IoT standards developments in IETF including 6LowPAN, ROLL and COAP - Semantic Sensor Networks and Linked Open Data - IoT enablers for smart environments and intelligent buildings - Security and Privacy for the IoT - Real world search and discovery - M2M services in mobile networks etc.

PARTICIPANTS WORKSHOP: All participants will have an opportunity to present their own work and involvement in the field.

Soft skills: Working in teams and presentation skills exercises. Social activities: One day is scheduled for an excursion; a dinner party as well as other interesting social activities will be also organized.

VENUE

The summer school will take place in Kotor, Montenegro.

REGISTRATION, COSTS and TRAVELING

Participation is open to all qualified applicants, but the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 40. If we receive more applications, we will select participants based on their work area and background, geographic distribution, and date of registration.

The registration fee of EUR 350 includes participation at all school activities, school material, accommodation in two bed rooms in a student house, breakfasts, lunches, dinners and a social event.

IMPORTANT DATES

Early registration deadline (extended): June 30, 2011

For registrations after June 30, 2011, the participation fee is EUR 400.
