The position
They are seeking to appoint a Senior Principal Research Scientist of international standing as Science Leader of Wireless Sensor Networks within our ICT Centre. Their focus in this research field is on distributed sensing systems and the augmentation with actuation and intelligence. You will have a record for innovation and generation of new ideas. The Science Leader will work closely with the Chief Scientist in shaping the future of the core research activities within the ICT Centre.Your role is to provide leadership in developing and nurturing professional skills in the science area, as well as the pursuit of excellence in this field. You are passionate about the science of sensor networks and more broadly distributed systems and cyber-physical systems and you aim at international recognition and impact through your and your team’s science. You will be honest, ethical and a team player, meticulous in your science, and creative in your ideas.The successful applicant will be appointed to an indefinite position within the CSIRO ICT Centre and upon appointment, also to the role of Science Leader for a (renewable) period of 3 years.
Specifically you'll
- Lead and promote Wireless Sensor Networks research that underpins the projects undertaken by research laboratories within the ICT Centre and more broadly across CSIRO. The focus will be on distributed sensing systems and the augmentation with actuation and intelligence.
- Lead small focused research teams to undertake rapid investigation of a number of research projects with the aim of identifying new scientific directions.
- Actively participate in projects underway in the Research Laboratories, either through project leadership or direct participation as a team member.
- Work with other Science Leaders and Senor Science Specialists to develop excellence in science and engineering research practice in the ICT Centre.
- Show International Science leadership as demonstrated through membership of international conferences and editorial boards.
Location: Brisbane, Australia
Salary: $137K - $172K plus superannuation

To be considered you will:
- Possess a PhD in engineering, computer science or a related field.
- Have a substantial record of research leadership in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks.
- Be active in the Wireless Sensor Networks research area and have an extensive publications record and a high profile in the international community.
- Have a track record of student supervision.
- Demonstrate collaboration across universities, research institutions and industry.
